I’ve always loved a good TV show–though now I usually find one and binge-watch the whole thing. I can remember memorizing the schedules of my favorite TV shows when I was younger, so that I could be sure to be there to watch it when it was time. The ones I almost NEVER missed when they were live? Gossip Girl, LOST, and Criminal Minds. (Can you guess my age yet?)
I’ll tell you this: there are a few things that I considered including on this list that I didn’t. For example, I have re-watched Firefly more than once, but it had a very short run and is not everyone’s cup of tea. Another one that is missing from my list, but I enjoy re-watching? Doctor Who. But, I re-watch particular seasons, obviously. NOT the whole series because…that would be a lot.
Anyway, back to the list. I’ve watched the entire series of a few of these multiple times. I mean, there are just some shows that you can always turn on and enjoy. I’m also one of those people who doesn’t deal well with silence. Even when I’m working on something else, I need some type of sound in the background. A couple of these are my go-to for background noise. So let’s get into this:
- Pushing Daisies Ok, ok…this one might be more suited to having a cult following, but I love this show. It’s quirky and creative, and the characters are all so unique. See also cast members: Lee Pace and Kristin Chenowith. If you’ve never seen it, give it a try. It’s bright and colorful and whimsical and really I just feel like it was canceled too soon.
- Parks & Recreation I came into Parks & Recreation late, binge-watched a few seasons, and then we watched the last couple of seasons in real-time. I feel like I might reference Parks & Rec pretty regularly and I’m not even ashamed. If I need a good laugh, I can always count on Parks & Rec and my favorite characters from the show. (The Snake Juice episode is one of my personal favorites.)
- Friends I’ll be honest, I didn’t actually ever watch Friends until sometime in college. If I had watched it when I was younger, I’m not sure I would have liked it as much…and I definitely wouldn’t have gotten a lot of the jokes. We re-watched the whole thing start-to-finish last year, and I still loved it. (Friends makes for really good background noise if you’ve already seen the whole series.) Side note, the number of recognizable people who made guest appearances on Friends is pretty impressive.
- The Office So, I tried to watch the Office in college when everyone else really fell in love with it…and I hated it. No, I don’t know why exactly. But Stephen has always loved it, and kept telling me that he thought I would if I would just give it a chance. So I did. And I do. So many laugh-out-loud moments. 10/10 would watch again.
- Gossip Girl This came out the year after I graduated from high school and I’m pretty sure that I never missed a single episode. I loved Gossip Girl. I remember it being shocking when the big reveal happened. I mean, it’s still so good. Naturally, I’ve watched it all the way through a few times and it never gets old. What would we do without Netflix, guys? (I’m hesitant about the reboot that is coming out…we’ll just have to see how that goes.)
- LOST No matter how you felt about the way that LOST ended, it’s another one that I can still get sucked into. You’ll remember that this was one of my ‘could not miss’ shows when it was on the air. Sigh…I think I need to start it up again soon. Personally, I liked the ending. But that could always change upon re-watching.
- New Girl This is my current background noise, and it still just cracks me up. It can be completely ridiculous, bit it’s just so much fun. Just the other night I watched one of my favorite episodes that I had completely forgotten about. New Girl is definitely one to watch again when you need a good laugh.
- Schitt’s Creek I only recently discovered Schitt’s Creek when I finished whatever I was watching on Netflix and needed something new. It is SO good. Honestly, I don’t know how to even say much about it, aside from it’s funny and endearing and definitely worth a watch. I love the cast, the story, and I can’t wait for some new episodes because I’ve seen all of the ones on Netflix multiple times now. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. And if you have, I’m sure you’ve watched it more than once already, too.
- White Collar I think it’s safe to say that I originally watched White Collar because Matt Bomer is in it. However, I re-watched it pretty recently and it holds up. This is definitely a show I could watch again (and maybe again after that.) I love the art thief/forger-turned-CI storyline, the cast is fantastic, and I loved the way it ended.
- Gilmore Girls This has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Anyone else really want to escape to Stars Hollow sometimes? It sure seems like the perfect little town…plus it is perpetually fall there, which I would LOVE. (Side note: Dean, Jess, or Logan? I’m FOR SURE team Jess.) Gilmore Girls is chock-full of witty banter, and honestly I see so much of people I know in some of the characters. (If you’re from a small town, you might feel the same way.) And the reboot? Definitely did not disappoint. Although, I could use a few more episodes, how about you?
