Here in the south, we can go through a full range of seasons in one day. This morning it was cold, and by the afternoon it was somewhere around 65 degrees or so. It’s so hard to dress for this kind of madness, but a basic black maxi dress like this one is a closet staple for me during transitional seasons. This one has pockets (!!!), so it’s that much better, but it’s so easy to style up or down and oh-so-comfy. The first time I wore it, I threw it on around 4:30 a.m. to head to the airport for an early morning flight. Let me tell you, it felt like I had on comfy pajamas and was just right for the temperamental temperatures in airports and on the plane.
Styling A Black Maxi Dress
A t-shirt style maxi dress is easy to dress up or dress down, with a quick change of shoes. When I wore this black maxi dress to the airport, I threw it on with my comfiest pair of flats and threw my hair up in a ponytail for the trip. To transition it to date night downtown, I replaced my flats with a pair of taupe mules and left my hair down (with a little bit of curl). Plus I knotted the hem up to show off my shoes a little. Why not show them off if you’re going to wear a pretty pair, right?
