During our last trip to Charleston, we heard about a local distillery where we could do a tour and tasting. When I was visiting without Stephen, I wandered into a wine tasting room, so it only made sense for us to wander into Highwire Distilling and check it out. Charleston is one of my favorite places to visit, but a distillery tour was something new to both of us.
The Tasting Room
If you can’t tell from the photos, I immediately fell in love with the label design when we walked into the tasting room. They’re right there lining the shelves when you come through the door, and the display is really stunning. We chatted with the guy working the bar for the tasting for a bit before we settled in for our tour & tasting.
Each tasting includes a sample of their Hometown Vodka, Hat Trick Botanical Gin, New Southern Revival Rye Whiskey, and Southern Amaro Liqueur. (I may have purchased a bottle of Hometown Vodka for our bar cart. It was really good!) While these are their four main spirits and the ones that they serve during their tastings, they have a few more variations that you can add on to your tasting if you’d like. We stuck to the list and did the basic tasting, but you can read a little about all of their spirits right here.
Have you ever done a tasting and tour at a distillery? We always try to get in a wine tasting or brewery tour when we’re visiting different cities, but a distillery tour was a new one for us.
