I love the holiday season for many reasons, but one of those reasons is because of all the good food. I KNOW. I always have plenty of time to test out new recipes on my friends and family, which is what I did with this spicy brie appetizer.
My family often had baked brie as a snacking dish when we were all together for a holiday meal. However, we always made it with apricot jam. Fun fact about me…I hate sweet jams and jellies. Give me a spicy pepper jelly any day, but fruit jelly? No THANK you.
So, I thought I’d try my hand at a spicy version and I’ve got to say I really love how it turned out. Somehow I even managed to make a bow with the extra puff pastry! I promise, this recipe is easy-peasy and a real crowd pleaser. I mean, most people like cheese, right?!
You can easily customize it with your favorite pepper jelly. I’ve used hot jalapeno jelly, red pepper jelly, and I’m even considering trying it with my favorite local jelly: rosemary jalapeno! Christmas will be here before you know it, and this spicy baked brie is sure to impress everyone at your holiday get-together! (Or, you know, just YOU!)
Spicy Baked Brie with Toasted Pecans
Ingredients
- 12 oz Brie Wheel
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry thawed according to package instructions
- 1/3-1/2 cup Toasted Pecans chopped
- 2-3 tablespoons Hot Pepper Jelly
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet large enough to fully cover the brie wheel.
- (Optional) Scrape the rind from the top of the brie. I like to do this because it helps the toppings sing right into the melted cheese.
- Spread the pepper jelly evenly on the top of the brie, then top it with the toasted pecans.
- Cover with the rolled puff pastry, then flip everything over keep a hand or a plate under the brie to keep all those toppings in there.
- Wrap the puff pastry securely around the brie wheel, and brush with an egg wash to help it all stick.
- Place the pastry-wrapped brie seam-side down on a foil-lined cookie sheet and brush the whole thing in a little egg wash.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes, and then dig in!
