On weekends when there isn’t a home football game, we like to wander around downtown Athens on Saturdays and pop into one of the local places for a late lunch. All summer long we mentioned checking out Pauley’s Crepe Bar, but never actually made our way there. Finally, the weekend before students moved back for classes at UGA we stopped by and grabbed a seat at the bar.
We started out by ordering the Terrapin Dip, expecting a hot beer + cheese dip, but what came out was a chilled, creamy cheese dip with fresh crostini. While not what we expected, it was really a tasty little starter for the two of us. (Next time we’ll order the bar snack version instead of the appetizer, though.)
After we slowly made our way through the Terrapin Dip, we placed our meal order. I ordered The Greek savory crepe, stuffed full of grilled chicken, spinach, tomatoes, and feta cheese with a delicious dijon vinaigrette. It was light and airy, and oh-so-delicious. Obviously, since it was a late Saturday afternoon lunch I ordered a fun little cocktail: the Raspberry Lemonade. It was sweet and tart, just a little sweeter than I usually enjoy, but it looks pretty, right?
Naturally, Stephen ordered the Buffalo Chicken savory crepe—not so light, but I snagged a bite and it was really good if you’re into spicy foods. I’m pretty sure he would’ve added more hot sauce if he’d been given the chance, but I thought it was the perfect balance of spice. He paired his Buffalo Chicken crepe with a Jailhouse Brewing Mugshot IPA.
At this point we were stuffed, but we couldn’t leave without trying one of their sweet crepes, so s’mores it was! A warm crepe filled with Nutella, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate, and mini marshmallows…pretty much heaven if you’re a s’more lover like me. We’ll definitely be heading back to Pauley’s soon, but we won’t order so much food at once next time.
