A couple of weekends ago, Stephen and I drove over to Alpharetta for a little winter staycation to kick off the holiday season. Even though the weather was dreary as can be, and it barely stopped raining, it was a wonderful little holiday staycation.
Where to Stay in Alpharetta – The Hotel at Avalon
We checked into the Hotel at Avalon around 4:00 in the afternoon, unloaded our bags into the room (and spent a little time admiring the view), before heading downstairs to grab coffee and wander around.
The Hotel at Avalon is the perfect spot to stay for a little weekend getaway in Alpharetta. It’s centrally located at The Avalon, which means you can pretty much find everything you need just by wandering around. It’s surrounded by shops, restaurants, a movie theatre, and on and on. We thoroughly enjoyed spending the afternoon wandering around Avalon, looking at the Christmas decor and doing a little shopping.
Dinner at South City Kitchen
Once the rain got too heavy for us to wander around in, we made our way back to the hotel to change for our dinner reservation at South City Kitchen. This little restaurant is a great spot for a dinner date: we ordered a couple of glasses of wine and snacked on pimiento cheese & biscuits until our main courses came. I ordered the fried chicken with collard greens, and he ordered the hanger steak with potatoes. (Unfortunately, it was too dark for photos, but I promise: it was delicious!) After dinner, we made our way back up to the room, where we listened to the rain and had a Christmas movie marathon.
Breakfast in Bed & Coffee by the Fire
In the morning, we decided to order room service for breakfast and eat in our pajamas. I mean, with the view from our room we couldn’t resist! avocado toast with a soft egg & smoked bacon for me, an omelette and grits for him, and all the coffee we could get. Eating breakfast right in the middle of a comfy hotel bed is one of my favorite things to do when I travel. (Anyone else?)
Once we packed up our things to check out, we decided to head downstairs and have a cup of coffee by the fireplace in the lobby before heading home. We snagged a spot with a full view of the roaring fire and the Christmas tree, and it was the perfect way to end our quick little staycation at the Hotel at Avalon.

Thank you to the Hotel at Avalon for hosting us during our little holiday staycation!
